Told in alternating chapters from the perspectives of Juli and Bryce, this is the story of two neighbors who see each other—and themselves—in completely different ways, until everything suddenly flips.
When Juli meets Bryce in the second grade, she knows it's true love. After spending six years trying to convince Bryce of the same, she's ready to give up--until he starts to reconsider.
The film condenses some events and characters for pacing. Bryce's internal thoughts are more explored in the book. Some minor subplots are omitted in the film adaptation.
The film remains very faithful to the book's core story and themes, making it enjoyable both as an adaptation and a standalone film. Experiencing both the book and the film provides a fuller understanding of the characters.
