The Book

The Grinch, a grumpy creature who lives on Mount Crumpit, hatches a plan to ruin Christmas for the cheerful Whos of Whoville — but learns an unexpected lesson.

The Film

On the outskirts of Whoville lives a green, revenge-seeking Grinch who plans to ruin Christmas for all of the citizens of the town. However, his plans are challenged when he encounters the kindness and spirit of the Whos. Ultimately, he learns the true meaning of Christmas.

Key Differences

The film expands the Grinch's backstory with a childhood origin not present in the book. The movie introduces new characters and subplots to lengthen the story. The tone is darker and more comedic compared to the book's simple and whimsical narrative.

Our Verdict

Read the book first

The film's added depth and humor make it entertaining but diverge significantly from the book's simplicity. Readers should experience the original story first to appreciate its charm before watching the adaptation.
