The Book

Widowed mouse Mrs Frisby must move her family's home before plowing destroys it. She seeks help from the mysterious rats of NIMH, who are not ordinary rats.

The Film

Mrs. Brisby, a widowed field mouse, seeks the help of a group of highly intelligent rats to save her home and sick son from destruction. She discovers the rats' secret past and their struggle for survival against human experiments.

Key Differences

The film changes Mrs. Frisby's name to Mrs. Brisby. The rats' origin story is simplified and some characters are omitted. The film adds more fantasy elements and a more dramatic climax than the book.

Our Verdict

Enjoy both!

The film is a well-made adaptation that captures the spirit of the book while making changes necessary for animation and pacing. Both reading the book and watching the film provide a fuller experience.
