The Book

Sixteen-year-old Simon Spier is being blackmailed about his secret: he's gay. As he tries to figure out the identity of his anonymous email crush, his life is upended.

The Film

Simon Spier is a high school junior who hasn't come out as gay yet. When an email falls into the wrong hands, his secret is at risk, and he must navigate friendship, love, and identity to find happiness.

Key Differences

The film condenses some subplots and secondary characters for time. Simon's internal monologue is less prominent in the movie. The ending is slightly more optimistic and cinematic compared to the book's nuanced conclusion.

Our Verdict

Enjoy both!

The film successfully captures the heart and themes of the book while adapting the story to a cinematic format, making it enjoyable both as an adaptation and a standalone movie.
