The Book

A prequel to the Hunger Games trilogy following the young Coriolanus Snow — before he became the tyrannical President — as he mentors the girl tribute from District 12.

The Film

We watch Coriolanus' last meeting with Lucy Gray the night before she enters the arena of the 10th annual Hunger Games. Adapted to screen from Suzanne Collins' book "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes."

Key Differences

The film focuses only on the night before the Games, omitting much of the book's broader political context. Coriolanus' character development is less explored compared to the novel. The relationship between Coriolanus and Lucy Gray is simplified and less nuanced.

Our Verdict

Read the book first

Due to its limited scope and reduced character depth, the film is best appreciated after reading the book. Fans will find the novel provides a richer understanding of the story and characters.
