The Film

A boy discovers he is the last of a group of immortal warriors sworn to fight the forces of darkness. As he learns to harness his powers, he must stop the dark from taking over the world.

Key Differences

The film changes the protagonist's name from Will Stanton to Will Stanton but alters his background significantly. The story shifts from a slow-building mystical quest to a more action-oriented adventure. Several important characters and themes from the book are omitted or heavily modified.

Our Verdict

Read the book first

The film's significant departures from the book's plot and tone make the original novel a better experience. Fans of the book will likely prefer reading it first to appreciate the story's depth and themes.
