The Book

Percy Jackson, a troubled twelve-year-old, discovers he is a son of a Greek god and embarks on a quest across America to prevent a war between the Olympians.

The Film

A teenager discovers he's the descendant of a Greek god and sets out on an adventure to settle an on-going battle between the gods. Along the way, he faces mythical monsters and uncovers hidden truths about his identity.

Key Differences

Percy is older in the film than in the book. The film changes the quest's objective and some key characters' roles. The tone is more comedic and less faithful to the book's mythology and character development.

Our Verdict

Read the book first

Due to significant changes in plot and character portrayal, the film is best appreciated after reading the book. Fans of the novel will notice many deviations that affect the story's depth and mythology.
